Weekly Meeting at SCCC

Business Meeting


Only 23 members and the visiting DG Dennis Stevens enjoyed a meal at SCCC, while a cricket match was played out on the pitch.

As it was a Business Meeting, President Kathryn led by thanking those who had sent in preferences for Committees, which she had attempted to meet, and hoped that each would attempt to keep the Club functioning successfully. As an economy measure, only one Club Handbook would be issued per person, to be distributed soon.

Secretary Bill Tregillus was still finding his feet and had nothing to report.

Treasurer Martin Lock said that final accounts for meals and subs would be sent as soon as he was able.

Community Service: John Binns reported that they planned to organise the usual events, Disco, Care Home entertainments, Kids Out and Special Schools Concert through the year.

In the absence of Paul Hughes, Bill Tregillus gave an update on the Halcon Project which was being well supported by members of the Breakfast Club in their Professional Capacity, and that the prospects of Lottery Money were looking closer. 

Vocational/Youth: Phil Greenway reported on a District Youth Showcase Day which he had attended, which had many new initiatives, but that he proposed to stick with the Technology Tournament this year.

International/ Foundation: Derek Johnson referred to a report that Richard Austin had prepared, and which had been placed on our Website. The Kenyan School Water and Sanitation project was going ahead with cooperation from the local Rotary Club, and that the cost would be less than originally feared. The 3 Clubs Weekend would be 21-24 May 2020. [to be confirmed in September].

House/Programme: Colin Barrell said that dates were confirmed until the New Year with several ideas still in hand.

D.G. Dennis thanked the Club for his welcome, and said that he is publishing a weekly Blog on circa1200.wordpress.com which can also be used by Clubs to attach their own event publicity to it. 

He presented our own Rory O’Donnell with the District Governor Elect Badge of Office, as he takes the post for the coming Year.

Next Meeting Monday 29th July – Hinton Skittles Trophy Match at the Lamb and Flag at Blagdon Hill. Come along for the food and beer if you do not want to play, but all welcome. Meal apologies must be given to David Janes by FRIDAY, please.

August Meetings – Weds 8th is a Breakfast Meeting, 

12th at SCCC- Speaker, Compass Disability.

19th – Visit to Crematorium followed by a Pub Scatter.

Bird Bath presentation at Abbeyfield

Taunton Vale Rotary Club has recently celebrated their 40th Charter anniversary. To mark the occasion the Inner Wheel Club of Taunton Vale have donated a bird bath, and this was handed over to Abbeyfield Residential Home in Bishops Hull.
