Friday 19th July 136 golfers again descended on the magnificent Blacknest Golf Course at Thornhill Golf Club to compete in The Thornhill and District Rotary Club’s annual charity golf competition. Despite the inclement weather all enjoyed a great day’s golf.
The course looked and played exceptionally well considering the wet conditions, following a very close competition the winning team Allison & Hunter Oil Ltd consisting of: M Bonn, J Martin, A Kingan and C Sloan took the competition by three shots over second placed team Thornhill Inn.
The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District have been hosting their competition for over twenty years now, which has generated over £93,000 for local charities. This year in excess of £3,400 was raised to support local charities with the main beneficiaries being MND Scotland, Alzheimer Scotland (Thornhill), and Thornhill Golf Club Junior Section, along with other charities and good causes throughout the year.
The Master of Ceremony for the evening Rotarian Sharon Glendinning introduced The Rotary Club of Thornhill and District’s President Michael Keene who went on to welcome Jean Rennie from MND Scotland to present her with a cheque for £1,500.00.
Michael thanked Thornhill Golf Club for the use of the golf course, green-keeping staff for the superb condition of the course, catering and bar staff for the excellent meals and service shown to guests during the day and all the sponsors for all their donations and prizes.
Last but certainly not least President Michael went on to mention and give thanks to all the teams who played and gave generously which contributed to make this years event another outstanding success, “without your generosity our main local charities and other local charities and good causes would not benefit”.
