Hearing Dogs for the Deaf

A club evening with delightful guests Tegan, Anne and Malcolm

Our club evening was enlivened by some special guests. Volunteers for "Hearing dogs for deaf people" Malcom & Anne Pickett with Tegan. Anne who is deaf after an illness acquired Tegan in 2014 after applying to the charity. She told us getting Tegan changed her life as she was able to go out with confidence. Malcom told us being deaf is very isolating and being able to get help from the charity by having a hearing dog is liberating. The dogs go through rigorous training and are matched to their human partners.

Some 1000 dogs are with deaf partners at the moment and the charity is planning to train up to 200 dogs each year.

At the end of the evening Past President John Binney presented Anne & Malcom with a cheque for £1000 towards the charity's work.
