Our speakers this week were our RYLA candidates from last July, Kimberley Angel, Jakub Wdowinski from Glenwood High School giving us feedback on their RYLA camp experiences. The common theme of these feedbacks from the students are the activities they are involved with over the course of the weeks camp at the Abernethy Trust Centre in Nethybridge, just a few miles from Aviemore.  The Abernethy Centre is the location and is staffed by a group of dedicated and talented course leaders, professionally qualified in the specialised field of outdoor pursuits. In all activities, the highest standard of safety is paramount. The pupils who come from all over our District, Scotland North is a Rotary International programme which offers young people an opportunity to participate in a programme of physical and intellectual activities, which will develop skills in. Team working, Positive leadership, communication, problem Solving and decision making. On these foundations are built self-confidence and self-esteem which are vital aspects of responsible and global citizenship. The activities include cycling, canoeing, abseiling, gorge walking and so many team building exercises. There is no cost to participants. The cost of the week, including travel, is covered by the local Rotary club. Once again, our chosen candidates mentioned that they had spent the best week of their lives and had developed their leadership skills along with the need to motivate and encourage their teammates. Both Candidates thanked the Rotary Club for giving them the opportunity of participating at the camp.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Murray Grubb.

This coming week’s meeting on Thursday 12th September 2018 will be our monthly early evening meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel. please meet 5.30pm. Along with club business we intend to run a short gavel competition with sandwiches and teas and coffees.
