Charity Fundraiser - Antique Valuation Day

Mon 16th September 2019 at 10.00 - 14.00

Bring along your valuables for assessment and valuation by the experts, including Anita Manning, from Great Western Auctions. £10 gets you 3 items valued. Got more then £10 for every additional 3. Being held in Function Suite at Boclair House Hotel.

We realise you may have a few questions.  The following Q&A will hopefully answer them.  If you want more information email

Do I need a ticket?

No.  Just turn up on the Day

Does each person have to pay?

No.  You pay for the items being valued, not how many people come with them.

How can I pay?

Cash or cheque made out to 'Rotary Club of Allander'

Are there disabled access and facilities?

Yes.  The hotel has disabled toilets.  There are 4 marked disabled parking bays at rear of hotel with wheelchair access via a ramp and door the rear of the building that gives access through to Reception and entrance to the Function Suite.

How many valuers will be in attendance?

Great Western Auctions plan to have 6 valuers and other support staff in attendance with logistics support from Allander Rotary

Why Boclair House Hotel?

The hotel has kindly offered us free use of their Function Suite.  It is one of the few locations in the district that offers us the capacity, internet access for 6 valuers, disabled facilities and good parking.

Can I get more than 3 items valued?

Yes.  Every 3 items will cost you £10

Is there public transport near the hotel?

Yes.  First bus 60A passes the entrance.  Bus stop at Asda going towards Glasgow, opposite the entrance going towards Milngavie.  Hillfoot Station is a few hundred yards from the hotel.

Is there parking at the hotel?

Yes.  There are lots of parking places in hotel grounds.  Please be careful on entry and egress to the grounds as the entry/exit is very close to a busy set of lights.  The path of cars also cross over on entry and exit.  We would advise of leaving that you turn towards Asda but beware of cars turning left at bottom of hill towards you.

Are Great Western Auctions (GWA) charging Allander for attending?

No?  They are supplying 6 valuers at no charge.

Will Anita Manning be there?

Anita plans to attend the event.  She is personally very supportive of Rotary and their charity fund raising and wants her business to be as well.

What do GWA get from the event?

They hope to get business either on the day or at a later date from those who attend or see the publicity for the event.

Why should I come to your fund raiser rather than go direct to GWA?

You will be donating to some great charity causes and GWA will give you a reduced rate on their normal commission for any deals agreed on the day or agreed on the day for a follow up valuation.

Are there refreshments?

None are included in your entry but the hotel will offer Tea or Coffee with a biscuit for £2 (less than half their normal cost).  Lunch cannot be offered as there is no working kitchen on that day.

You may see Auction staff round lunch time being given soup and a sandwich.  This is an advance agreement with the hotel and unfortunately cannot be put on general offer. We need to keep them alert and ready to give you a valuation.

What is MYC?

MYC is the Milngavie Youth Centre that Allander Rotary has been supporting for many years, both monetary and in kind.  Allander members are actively involved in MYC as Trustees.

What is WheelPower?

WheelPower is the UK wheelchair charity supporting the rehabilitation of people with spinal injuries.  They are seeking to support the Scottish Spinal injuries unit at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow and this is one of the reasons why Allander is involved in supporting the charity.
