The Paul Wellman Golf Trophy 2019

The Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill held their annual Paul Wellman Trophy at the Three Rivers Golf and Country Club in warm sunny, windless conditions. The competition, instigated in honour of Rotarian Paul Wellman, was well supported by members of the club

No-one was more surprised that the eventual winner would be Jackie Wellman, Paul’s widow, than Jackie herself who led the field by 3 points to come into the clubhouse with 39 points, ahead of Carl Watson on 36 points and John Culwick on 35 points.

Jackie is not only the first lady golfer to triumph in this event but is also the first lady President of the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill.

The longest drive was won by John Fairweather and nearest the pin by John Culwick. Vic Haynes took the highest scoring visitors prize and Neil Muir was awarded a prize for his exemplary play on the day.

All contestants agreed that they had enjoyed an excellent, if somewhat frustrating days golf, made slightly more challenging by the unconventional placing of the pins, placed there in preparation for the Three Rivers Charity “Crazy Golf” challenge.
