Wensleydale Wander 2010

Sat, Apr 17th 2010 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

An annual 12 or 22 mile round walk in in scenic Wensleydale, in aid, this year, of British Heart Foundation and local Rotary charities. Very friendly and great fun.

The weather was ideal, with sunshine and blue sky. A wind did eventually build up on the high moor causing the refreshment tent to be taken down early to prevent it blowing away!

Andrew Lamb of Darlington was first home after running the 12 mile route in 1hr 40min. Elizabeth Crank of Bishops Stortford, was the first lady and second overall in 2hr 2min, beating John Smith of Hartlepool and John Hunter of Richmond into 3rd and 4th places by one minute.

Steve Webbof Bingley was first home after running the 22 mile route in 3hr 2min. Rob Salt of Loughborough was second, followed in short order by Derek Parrington of Northallerton, Joe Hartley and Keith Wilson, both of Darlington.

The principal Charity to benefit this year was the British Heart Foundation. Lady Bolton, the Chairman of the local branch of BHF, spent some time at their stand in Wensleydale School, where walkers ate their meal after completing the walk. She then received an interim cheque from the President of Wensleydale Rotary Club, Leslie Parfitt. Another

We were pleased with the increased entry for our second Saunter, particularly how much people enjoyed the route. So the 2024 Saunter will be over the same route.
