Louise Flockhart - Climber

Wed, Jun 3rd 2020 at 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Meeting on Zoom

Louise, who has spoken at the club before and who is sponsored by us, gave an extremely polished and interesting talk about her climbing. She has participated in many national and international competitions and has achieved almost too much to list.

In the 2019 GB Youth Climbing Team Competition she gained five golds and one silver.

She has attended competitions all over Europe and took part in the Youth World Championship in Arco in Italy on Lake Garda.

In the European Youth Bouldering Championship in Brixen in Italy she qualified for the semi-final and was particularly pleased to qualify for the final by getting to the top boulder feet first. In the final she was commended for using an ice climbing manoeuvre.

Since the start of 2020 and before lockdown she has trained hard and won two gold and one silver.

Since lockdown she has trained on a board in her garden. She also has a tight rope like piece of equipment and a pull up apparatus which she made herself.

She coaches youngsters including one blind boy and is looking forward to participating in the Olympics in 2024 in Paris.

She showed several photographs and videos of herself and others climbing including one in which she had a fall from what looked like great height. Several Rotarians had to look away.

There were several questions which she answered admirably and she thanked the club for its support.

Mike Rowe gave the club’s  VOT to Louise for a truly memorable presentation.
