The Christmas Tree Festival and Santa's visit to Sudbury

Christmas Activities 2019

Think Christmas in Sudbury, think Christmas Tree Festival, a major contribution to celebrating Christmas in the town.

A marvellous display of 99 beautiful, imaginatively decorated trees - such was Sudbury Rotary Club's 2019 Christmas Tree Festival. Rewarding for many reasons – not just because of the money raised –  £5,200 this year, a record – but also because of the community cohesion it inspired – churches, charities, schools, associations, businesses, all collaborating together to provide the townsfolk with an enjoyable, wholesome experience.

In addition to the trees, refreshments were available throughout the opening hours, many volunteers had a taste of servicing the event and musical entertainment was provided. But even this doesn't really convey the personal enjoyment and time for reflection that visitors were able to benefit from.

The Tree of Memories, sponsored by East of England Co-operative Funeral Service, once again graced the Chancel of St. Peters and proved to be more popular than ever, with countless dedications adorning the branches.

Santa

Rotary Santa opened his grotto in the window of Homes and Hills in North Street for the Sudbury Christmas Lights switch-on on 29th November.  There were lots of children telling Santa what they wanted for Christmas, and a collection for Rotary charities made £144.  Unfortunately, Santa was unable to meet children in his grotto in Sudbury Library this year as suitable space was not available, however he was present at the Friends of Sudbury Library Carol Concert, spoke with several children, and added to the atmosphere.
