After listening to Preethi Perera at their latest meeting, Hucknall rotarians were convinced that Preethi must be one of the bravest young woman originating from Hucknall. For Miss Perera will shortly be embarking on a 2 year solo humanitarian trip working in some of the world's most deprived areas. Preethi's journey of a lifetime begins in Goa, India working with the charity ‘Volunteer in Goa’ supporting local orphanages and animals.

From Goa she will travel to Bengaluru to be involved in a women’s empowerment project with the Sankalp Volunteer Group.

The last stop in India is Chennai, helping women with learning disabilities alongside the group 'Original Volunteers'

After six months in India Preethi will then fly to Cambodia for 3 months to work on community development, human rights, HIV & AIDs awareness, gender and environmental issues with 'International Volunteer HQ' (IVHQ).

From Cambodia she will be crossing the border to Vietnam to work on a project that focuses on feeding the homeless through local soup kitchens for 2 months before moving on to Thailand to work in a dog and cat rescue sanctuary.

Next on the agenda is a visit to Kampala in Uganda for 20 weeks to help with women’s education, HIV and AIDS support and numerous construction and renovation initiatives. Two months are planned in Tanzania giving HIV and AIDS support in the local community.

The penultimate destination will be Zambia for another two months. Whilst there Preethi will be delivering care to elderly residents and community development. The two year trip concludes with a 20 week programme in Ghana teaching childcare and agriculture.
