A truly majestic party was held by Hucknall Rotarians and friends virtually 90 years to the day after the clubs inaugural meeting on 2nd March 1926 .
The John Godber Centre Hucknall hosted this august gathering as celebrants listened and danced to the fantastic music of Caitlen Bailey who covered a diverse selection of songs including well-known numbers of Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Freda Payne, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Caro Emerald, Jesse J, Emeli Sande, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Pink and Cheryl Cole. Superb food was provided by Summerby’s Catering
However in true Rotary style, this wasn’t JUST a party to celebrate the club’s 90th anniversary. The party organisers, Rotarian Andrew Stone and his wife Clare, decided that Portland College, Ravenshead should benefit from the festivities. Hucknall Rotary Club and Portland College have a long association of working together dating back to the 1940’s and currently the Rotary Club sponsor a team from Portland College to complete annually at the National Rotary Disabled Team Championships. This anniversary event raised over £ 1,100 which will fund this year’s competition.
