Cruising to Edinburgh. - For over 10 years Peter Wilson has been leading a project to allow visiting cruise passengers make the most of their visit to Edinburgh. You will be surprised by some of the discoveries he has made along the way

Former club member Peter Wilson has been leading this project to allow visiting cruise passengers make the most of their visit to Scotland. He illustrated his talk with a number of photos.

The project was started by volunteers standing at the cruise line terminal at Rosyth to advise passengers they could go on a visit to Edinburgh. Later they were able to go on board the cruise liner and advise passengers what was available. Among other attractions they could take a bus to go on a trip to Hopetoun House or visit St Andrews in Fife. A leaflet was produced illustrating these.

Later Lothian buses put on a bus service from South Queensferry direct into Edinburgh. A web site was produced showing what was available, then an app.

Cruising to Edinburgh did not forget the crews of the ships and were able to organise shopping trips for them. For some reason they all seemed to love Toblerone.

Bringing us up to date Peter advised that the Scottish government has not yet allowed any cruises from Scotland. The cruise industry is currently on hold

However the number of cruises available are increasing every year and many new ships are being built.

It was a most interesting talk and many questions were asked. Lindsay Craig gave the club’s vote of thanks.
