Jeff Zycinski - Insider's tale of BBC radio

.

Jeff Zyciniski, Former Head of Radio for BBC Scotland , gave a fascinating talk detailing his career path and highlighting humorous, topical and detailed stories of his early life in commercial radio, and his 25 years with the BBC

Prior to his time with the BBC he had worked in commercial radio in London, Inverness and Glasgow covering all aspects of Radio reporting.

He was attracted to this as a career after, as a student working with Capital Radio in London his first Gig was to report his experience by spending  24hrs in the famous Paul Raymond Strip Club.

He asked his audience to think about the question What percentage of people in the UK listen to Radio every day? and he would get our thoughts at the end of the presentation.

A series of experiences when working in various parts of the UK informed and entertained us, most of which, he claimed, were a success because of his strong personal curiosity of live and the people he met.

He then asked for answers to his question and surprised a number of members by confirming that:

95% of UK adults listen to radio every day

24% of car users listen to the radio when travelling

41% of young (20 to 35year old ) adults listen to Radio every day.

Ian Kerr gave the Club’s vote of thanks.
