Home | The area covered by this district
The 73 clubs in this district cover an area from Carlisle in Cumbria almost at the Scottish Border, south to Chorley in Lancashire, and from the west coast of both Lancashire and Cumbria to the Yorkshire boundary. The M6 Motorway bisects the area from north to south making travelling less arduous.
The area is unique in what it offers to visitors, History for the historian; nature for the naturalist, and cultural experiences in abundance. The Lake District National Park is within Cumbria, whilst Lancashire offers the Trough of Bowland, two of the most scenic areas in the UK.
Archaeology sites can be found from Hadrian's Wall near Carlisle, to Roman remains at Ribchester in the Ribble Valley, and Industrial archaeology is in evident throughout the district.
Historic market towns and cities have much to offer with agricultural shows, farmers markets, Air Shows, annual historic events and customs. The world famous Blackpool Tower is just one of the delights of Blackpool and theatres, casinos, ice shows, and all the traditional seaside entertainments for all ages can be found at all the Fylde Coast towns.
Colleges and Universities in the District now offer a great variety of study for the young, and employment for the qualified. Precision engineering and computer technology developed through gas and oil exploration is acknowledged throughout the world for its excellence, particularly in oceanology and space.
Sport is very big in our area, Rugby League and Union; Soccer at all levels from Premiership to children's leagues; Cricket from the highest levels to children's, in addition to walking, sailing, and many others too numerous to list.
North-west England is an area of great variety and contrast, and all Rotarians in the District welcome you, and look forward to meeting you.
YOU CAN BE SURE OF A WARM NORTHERN WELCOME in 1190
