District 1040's Annual Conference in 2010 will be held in Harrogate with the Conference itself being held at the magnificent Royal Hall part of the Harrogate International Conference Centre from 1st – 3rd October 2010.
Following the success of the expanded House of Friendship this year in Southport the House of Friendship will be located next door in Exhibition Hall A. It is proposed to make this a Showcase for Rotary and open the exhibition to the Public for all 3 days of the Conference. Why not take the opportunity to have a place to promote what your Club is doing. This could be in the form of a full stand that would be manned during the opening times or a Display Board; these will be displayed strategically around the Showcase. Chris Bown, Rotary Club of Haworth and Worth Valley, will be organising this exciting Rotary Showcase so contact her and book early to guarantee your place.
At the same time our Conference is taking place there is an Antiques Fair also being held within other Halls of the Centre. We are working to a partnership with this event to the benefit of both of us.
With regard to Hotels we have been working with the Harrogate Tourist Board to hopefully offer the best deals on local Hotels. Please go to the Hotel Booking Section and follow the link to see these offers and book your Hotels on Line.
The Conference Hotel is to be The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate. As in previous years Clubs are more than welcome to stay in the Conference Hotel on a first come first served basis. It is not possible to book the Hotel on line or by contacting the Hotel Direct as it is currently booked out by the District whilst we calculate the number of rooms required for speakers and Conference Guests etc. Please contact me by E'Mail for details with your Club name and the number and type of rooms you would like to book. I will then allocate to clubs as I say on a first come first served basis.
Those of you seeing the presentation on Sunday Morning at Southport will gather there is to be no formal Dinner on the Friday night. This is due to availability of a suitable venue at an acceptable cost. Therefore all delegates should arrange dinner both nights in your Hotels or using the many local first class Restaurants.
Follows is an Invitation from DGE Roger Percival and Ann to join them in Harrogate for what promises to be a weekend full of Fun, Fellowship and Inspirational and Interesting Speakers along with a full and first class programme of entertainment.
So to all of you, regular Conference attendees and those who have for whatever reason not attended District Conference the invitation is there to you all alike. Come to Harrogate between the 1st and 3rd of October 2010 and truly 'Experience Harrogate'

Dear Fellow Rotarians
We are really excited that we've been able to book a really prestigious venue – Harrogate – for our District Conference in 2010. It's about as centrally placed in the District as we can get, so I hope all clubs will join us for what promises to be a fantastic conference.
Those of you who already know me will know the importance I place on fun and fellowship – and Conference Chairman Keith Davison and the team are working hard to meet these expectations.
Work has already begun on the programme of inspirational key-note speakers, with topics covering local, national and international issues – which reflect the projects and initiatives that some of our clubs are already engaged in, while encouraging other clubs to consider supporting them.
As the evenings are such an important and integral part of conference, there will be a programme of first-class entertainment for you and your guests to enjoy, including a show in the recently refurbished glittering Royal Hall on the Friday evening and dancing to a Big Band on Saturday evening with professional dance demonstrations and a chance to show off your twisting prowess!
I know that Harrogate is a favourite destination for many of you – attractions include Betty's, the Royal Baths and the Royal Horticultural Gardens at Harlow Carr – and some of the best shops and boutiques in the North. So here's a special opportunity for a fun-packed weekend enjoying its uniqueness and splendour especially as we've successfully negotiated some brilliant hotel deals for you.
There will be a golf competition on the Friday at the Oakdale golf course and the House of Friendship will be staged next to the Royal Hall. We are also planning a partnership with the Antiques Fair that is being held over the same weekend. So you certainly won't be short of things to do!
Ann and I are greatly looking forward to meeting you all.
DGE Roger Percival
