The Scholars with John Blake (right), Head of Sales and Marketing at Ascot Race Course

Brief Details: Eight Ambassadorial Scholars based in Oxford and Reading spent an afternoon at Ascot Race Course

The day was organised by the Rotary Club of Ascot, with thanks to Ascot Racecourse who kindly provided free admission for the scholars.  This meeting, the first of the flat season at Ascot, is one of the quieter events of the year, so gives ample opportunity for the scholars to explore the grandstand and the course side, and to learn how to place a bet!  None of the scholars had attended a race course in the UK before, and one described it as a "a very English afternoon".  The girls were particularly intrigued by the hat stall, which was displaying and selling hats for wearing at Royal Ascot later this year.
