During the parade our club members supported the Carnival's organisers in raising moneys in support for Martin Gadd's Appeal. The total amount collected was £258.20. Martin is a former student of Barley Hill and Lord Williams' Schools who was paralysed from the waist down following a fall last year. He has recently started his university course, with the help of a full time carer. The funds raised are for equipment and adaptations needed to help Martin live as independently as he can at home. The Rotary Club of Thame's float had a huge Rotary wheel on it. It was pulled by a vehicle kindly driven by Ian Williamson, President of the Oxford Spires Rotary Club.
Our theme was be "Rotary in Action - Famous Characters of Oxfordshire - Past and Present". The members of the public were able to enter a quiz to guess who these famous characters are. They saw "The Queen of Hearts", "King Charles 1st", "Robin Gibb", "Tim Henman" and "Winston Churchill".
There was a £1 entry fee for the quiz - the funds raised will be for Rotary charities. The lucky winner of the prize - 4 tickets to the Thame and Oxforshire County Show ( 20 September 2007) - was Mrs C. Fieldsend of Thame.
