The start

Guess How Long It Takes ???? For a 1937 Morris 8 with 2 overweight men to get from Bradford to Lincoln?

President Terry Slocombe of Rotary Club of Shipley, owner and driver of said Morris 8, decided to take DG Em and leave him in Lincoln bringing back DG Peter Manton of D1270.  Guess the time was well supported although most, we understand, were paying to get rid of DG Em!

The trip was to raise funds for the Burns Unit which was established after the Bradford City Football Club Fire Disaster on 11th May 1985. Bradford City were playing Lincoln City when the wooden stand built in 1911 caught fire and 56 lost their lives (including 2 from Lincoln.

At the 25th Anniversary Commemoration at Centenary Square Bradford a wreath was laid on behalf of all the Rotary Clubs in Bradford and Lincoln by DGs Em & Peter and AG Les. Afterwards 85 Rotarians and guests including 13 from Lincoln joined for a Fellowship lunch organised by AG Les at the Bradford Rotary Club venue.

Arrival in LincolnThe total time taken was 6 hours 32 minutes and 16 seconds.

The closest two were;

H Warton who made a guess of 6 Hours 32 minutes and 15 seconds who wins the overnight stay for two at the Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey.  The winner placed his/her bid with Les Bown of Haworth and Worth Valley Club, so Les wins a VIP day out to Lincoln City Football Club.

Samir, who bought his ticket at the People in the Park event organised by Bradford Bronte came second and  receives a season ticket to Bradford City Football Club.  His time was 6 hours 32 minutes 20 seconds.

Not receiving a prize two local rotarians came very close;

Sue Jones (Shipley Rotary!!!!!!!!!) guessed 6 hors 32 minutes and 10 seconds - losing out by just one second and in fourth place was G Parker with a guess of 6 hours 32 minutes and 40 seconds, placing his/her guess through Bradford West Rotary Club.

The guesses recorded started 4 hours 8 minutesat and finished at 15 Hours 47 minutes 0 seconds (with the exception of one guess at 12 days!!!!

May I thank every one for their support and can you please circulate the results as much as possible.

The final figure raised for the Bradford Burns Unit is not yet known but is in excess of £1000.  Again - thank you very much for your generous support.

May I also thank the generousity of the Decvonshire Arms Hotel, Bolton Abbey, Bradford City Football Club and Lincoln City football club for all their support and generous donations of prizes.
