Home | Club News and Bulletins | 2010 Nidderdale Walk raises £52000

The Rotary Club of Harrogate's 17th. Nidderdale Charity Walk took place Sunday, 16th May and once again was a great success.

Although there were slightly fewer walkers taking part than in last years walk, the net result was way in excess of the sum raised last year. The walk is held so that participants can raise money for their own charities and in all nearly 1000 people took part on the day and so far nearly £52,000 has been pledged. There are still a number of pledges to come in and the final sum could be around £60,000 – some £10,000 up on the previous year. Some 73 charities and local organisations will benefit significantly from the event. The members of the Rotary Club of Harrogate were supported by many volunteers who joined the Rotarians and their wives on the day to help man check points, the desks in the control centre, and who assisted with the catering. The club was fortunate to attract sponsorship from many organisations including Bettys/Taylors and The Black Sheep Brewery without whose help we would find it extremely difficult to hold this event. There are 3 walks through Nidderdale at 7, 15 and 22 miles – all starting and ending in Pateley Bridge and a special walk for the disabled from Scar Reservoir to Lofthouse; this was started by District Governor Em who can be seen in the photo with President Graham Archer and some of the participants.  It was a tremendous effort by all and greatly enjoyed by everyone who took part. As one walker put it, "a great family day out and a superb community service effort. Thank you to one and all
