July 2010 – the start of a new Rotary Year
Valedictions:
I am pleased to report that I have received no news of any members' death this month.
New members:
Congratulations to the following Clubs for inducting new members and a warm welcome to: Delan Umane and Adrian Thorne of the Narberth & Whitland Rotary Club – that's 8 new members for this club in 2009 -2010! – many congratulations to them all; Ian Bayliss of the Crickhowell Rotary Club; Cathy Wild of the Cardiff St David's Rotary Club; Dawn Elliott, Clayton Richards, Joyce Steven and Gwyn Thomas of the Rotary Club of Newport Uskmouth; Neil Snowden of the Aberdare Rotary Club and Bill Oliver of the Rhondda Rotary Club.

Resignations:
I am sorry to report the resignations of: Martyn Watkins from the Rotary Club of Crickhowell; Twm Jones of the Llandovery Rotary Club who has been made an Honorary member and PP John Lowther PHF of the Newport Uskmouth Rotary Club who has also been elected an Honorary member.
Important dates and events:
Ø The District Handover will be held at: ABERAVON BEACH HOTEL on SUNDAY JULY 4th 2010. This will be a lunch time event starting at 12.15 for 13.00.
Ø RYLA - There are still a few vacancies on the RYLA courses and if any Club is considering applying for places, please contact the organiser, Hugh Clatworthy urgently (tel: 01633 893919 or email: clatworthyhugh@aol.com) . The inclusive cost is £300.00 per student. The start dates are 18th and 25th July, 1st and 15th August.
Ø Thanks for Life 2010 – 2011 FOR URGENT CONSIDERATION and ACTION
Any clubs who haven't as yet committed to participate in the RIBI Crocus Planting Initiative for TfL are encouraged to consider this project and take part. RIBI has negotiated purchase of the purple crocus corms at 25% off RRP, PROVIDED orders are placed by July 10th. Clubs participating should send name, address and postcode of Rotarian who will accept delivery of bulbs in September/October period asap, and before July 10th, together with a cheque for £42.28 to purchase 2,500 corms to PDG Clayton Heycock at: 6 Tanygroes Place, PORT TALBOT SA13 2TU; or tel 01639 883222; or by email to: lyndaclayton@hotmail.com .
Ø The District Conference will be held at Plymouth from 8 – 10 October. Full details are available on the District web site or contact Howard Hughes, the Conference Chairman, or Christine Bayliss the Conference Registrar.
