On the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind, members of the Sheffield Visually Impaired Walking Group completed a sponsored ascent of Kinder Scout (2088 ft. above sea level).

The walk was was led by Abbeydale Rotarians Mike Jackson (who has been acting as a regular guide for the SVIWG for several years) and Paul Goodlad.  The Walking Group is regularly hosted by the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind at their premises on Mappin Street, Sheffield.

The varied terrain was negotiated well, lunch was enjoyed and Mike and Paul, being experienced walkers, were able to share their knowledge of the environment and descriptions of the views.

On the descent, a massive thunderstorm broke out just ten minutes above the Edale Valley but it did not unduly affect what was a very enjoyable day for the Group - which the Rotarians find truly inspirational in their achievements.

£200 was raised in sponsorship through Abbeydale Rotary Club for Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (Registered Charity No. 1047257, Founded in 1860).
