A sponsored charity walk in the summer organised by the Bradford club has netted £11,000 for the charity Help for Heroes

The charity Help for Heroes received a cheque for £11,000 from Bradford rotary club members on Friday 26 November following their 13th biennial charity walk last summer.

The club has organised an event every other year for the past 26 years and in total have raised more than £75,000 for local charities including the Sight Savers International, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and two local Fell Rescue organisations.

'This summer 110 participants, including many of our 35 members, walked the 21 miles along the Dales Way from Buckden to Bolton Abbey,' says club member John Parker. 'Virtually all of them managed to complete the distance and we are delighted we raised such a fantastic amount for such a worthwhile cause.'

The cheque was presented at the club meeting to Help for Heroes representative Kevin Mitchell. He told members that since the charity was founded in October 2007, more than £77.3million has been raised to support service personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

'As well as those who have died, there are around 140–180 service men and women wounded each month, who don't usually make the headlines,' he said. 'I am so grateful to you for raising such a magnificent sum.'
