Thirsk Rotary President Alistair Ratcliffe with Ambassadorial Scholar Shaniek Parks

Thirsk Rotary Club President Alistair Ratcliffe welcomed 23 year old Shaniek Parks from The Rotaract club of Montego Bay Jamaica to the weekly Rotary meeting and a Thirsk club banner was graciously exchanged for a Jamaican National flag.

Rotarian John Tempest of Roundhay Rotary club accompanied Shaniek to Thirsk.

Shaniek, dressed in beautiful traditional Jamaican attire, gave the Thirsk Rotary members an illustrated talk about  herself, her academic study programme  and Jamaican culture. P1030673.JPG
 
Shaniek is a Rotary  Ambassadorial Scholar attending Leeds University for one year as a post graduate student studying for an MA in International Communications and is being hosted by Roundhay Rotary club members and their families until September 2011.
 
During her stay visits are being arranged to other neighbouring Rotary clubs to promote the work of the Rotary Foundation Charity which funds the Ambassadorial Scholars programme that aims to promote peace, International understanding and goodwill to form stronger ties between the family of Rotary worldwide.
 
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships, were founded in 1947. Since then, more than 40,000 men and women from over 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices
