A summary of an incident which happened at a Rotary event

Incident Report

An incident recently occurred at an event attended by a Club in D 1020. It is an example of how easily an unexpected event can happen. I am passing it on as a learning exercise as many Clubs will use similar equipment.

A 'splat the rat' assembly was in use when it was struck by a strong gust of wind. The gust struck from behind and the main vertical backboard and downpipe assembly with hinged leg frame attached crashed forward before any member could hold it. The heavy board and pipe fell forward striking 2 young children. One was struck on the forehead and the other on the nose. There was no significant injury.

The assembly was immediately taken out of use and will not be used again until modifications have been made which will allow it to be fixed securely by guy ropes or similar.
