Home | District Conference Hull 2012 | 2012 Speaker Announcement - Wish Upon a Star

Pat Wright and Joanne Heywood are a mother and daughter team, working together to make dreams come true for children with terminal and incurable illnesses.

Their involvement with When You Wish Upon A Star began 17 years ago when Joanne's daughter Rebecca, who herself has complex medical issues and Cerebral Palsy, raised funds for the Charity.

As a family, they raised 33,000 the first year and were privileged to accompany many children from the region on the Charity's trip to Lapland, at that time from East Midlands Airport.  This led to recognising a need for a trip for the children of our region and the Humberside flights began.

Over the years, the Charity's work has grown regionally to such an extent that on average at least one individual "Wish" per week is granted, as well as taking around 100 children and their parents on the Lapland trip.  Wishes can range from meeting a favourite star to a dream family holiday to Florida.

Often there is a need to fundraise against the clock, to bring about a very brave and deserving child's "Wish" whilst time allows.

Wish Upon a Star is a national charity.   Find out more
