First Classic Car Show a great success. Rtn. Dave Tabner (Redcar) brought his 1960 Ford Thames Fire Engine.

Though the weather was not as good as expected, the first ever Classics on Show exceeded all expectations, with over 120 vehicles registered and close to 1000 visitors during the day. Over GBP1500 was raised for Rotary charities.

On Sat 16 June, Stokesley saw its first ever Classic Car and Bike Show on the Showfield.

Though the weather was not as good as expected, the Show exceeded all expectations, with over 120 vehicles registered and close to 1000 visitors during the day.

Classic cars were there in abundance, with the Northern Jaguar and Triumph Owners Clubs well represented and a strong contingent from Teesside Yesteryear Club.

In the Classic Bike arena, there were Triumph, BSA, Francis Barnett, and Ariel motorcycles from 1928 to 1978 .

The Commercials class included an Austin 5 ton tanker, a Ford Thames Fire Engine, and a wide range of tractors and agricultural vehicles.

Well over 100 photographs of the exhibits will be found at www.classicsonshow.co.uk which has more details of the event.

As well as raising money for Rotary charities, including SPIOTA, Shelterbox and Aids-free Birthright for Children, there was a hugely successful Tombola in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The full contents of a Rotary Shelterbox were on display during the day, while the new all-weather Shelterbox tent saw service as the First Aid Point, and was manned by volunteers from St John Ambulance.

A contingent from the local Fire and Police services was on hand to demonstrate their skills to visitors, and the event catering was provided by a classic left-hand drive ‘spilt-screen’ Volkswagen Campervan, with a pick-and-mix sweetshop housed in a converted Minivan.

Following the success of this first show, Stokesley Rotary Club, which organised the event, has already begun planning for a much larger event in June 2013. More details from president@stokesleyrotary.org.uk
