District Conference provides the opportunity for Rotarians all over the District to meet, enjoy club and inter-club fellowship.
Plenary sessions are inspirational with motivational speakers, club projects and presentations from our GSE Team, Rotaract and Inner Wheel. Previous keynote speakers have included John Godber, David Sheppard, Camila Batmanghelijdh, Olympic Gold Medallists Giles Long MBE and Bryan Steel to name but a few. In 2011 we were joined by Eric Knowles of Antique Roadshow fame.
Representatives from Rotary International and RIBI (Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland) bring messages from the Presidents endorsing and explaining the main focus for the Rotary year. Conference commences with the annual Golf Competition organised by the previous year's winner supported by their club.
Between 20-30 exhibitors take part with stands that share information or sell products to raise charity funds. Exhibitors have included Mercy Ships, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, Rotaract, Inner Wheel and Bill Huntley Peace Scholars to name but a few.
Friday and Saturday night entertainment is always popular with everything from Ceildah to Jazz, Oompah band to Discos.
Each year Conference has a theme that is close to the heart of the District Governor for that year. Previous themes have included "Flying Faster, Flying Freer, Flying Further" and "The Family of Rotary". The theme for 2011 was "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue"
