Home | Rotary and the young people
Rotary works with a number of organisations involved with the younger generation.
A lot of Rotary Clubs work alongside teachers in schools taking the lead with environmental projects, mentoring and providing valuable equipment such as books, PE equipment, computers etc.
D1270 encourages schools and young people to take part in District competitions, from which the winners take part in the regional competition to find those who will go on to the national competition

An Introduction to Youth Service.
A new adventure for the Youngest members of the Family of Rotary.
How does it work? It is a relatively new and exciting concept. A great opportunity for your Rotary Club and the local primary school to work together.
- Ideas for projects are discussed in class with the class teacher
- Rotarians make regular visits to support the projects that are chosen
- E mail communications can be used to update Rotarians about progress
- Discussions about running projects always involve the Rotakids. Eg they may be divided into teams and have responsibilities allocated to each team.
What are the benefits?
- Young people begin to learn project, team and leadership skills in an ethical setting
- It gives a stronger, more meaningful purpose to work that is already being done in the school (citizenship projects, environmental projects, etc)
- Self esteem and confidence grow at crucial time of recognised psychological development
- Knowledge of the impact of completed projects is more widely recognised in the community
- parents and school staff learn about Rotary
The Rotakids pledge: "As a Rotakid, I endeavour to be fair to all, to serve my community and to show respect to others".
Useful information and leaflets
The Starter Plan is key to what is involved in getting Rotakids started. The others documents give further information and support material. Most documents can be downloaded below.
