Young Writer
Objective This competition provides an opportunity for Rotary to
encourage excellence in writing among children in their local community.
The competition aims to provide a mechanism for young people to participate, using their writing skills, imagination and creativity. It can be targeted at schools and youth groups.
Age Groups The competition has three age groups:
Junior: 7 to 10 years
Intermediate: 11 to 13 years
Senior: 14 to 17 years
Ages are calculated as at 31st August 2012
Format Entries are to be in the form of a letter written to anyone living dead or yet to be born and should not begin with the author's address but with
Dear ....................... The letter should not exceed one sheet of A4 and can be handwritten or typed.
For 2012 - 2013 the theme for all age groups is ”Peace”
Competitions are organised at Club, District, and National level.
Prizes All entrants will receive a certificate.
For the National Final the winners will be given appropriate awards including a fountain pen from Cross Pens.
Judging Criteria Entries will be judged on:
· Imagination relative to the subject
· Ability to engage interest
· Ability to be consistent in the power of argument
Dates The District competition will be judged during January 2013 so that prizes can be presented at the District Youth Speaks Final on Sunday 3 February.
Entries for the District competition should be submitted to Bryan Bamber by 31 December 2012.

Entries Each Rotary Club is entitled to submit a participant for the District competition. Where one club organises a joint competition on behalf of several clubs, each of the several clubs is entitled to submit a participant to the District competition.
