Youth Speaks

 

Objective                      This is an opportunity for young people to develop public speaking skills.

 

Age Groups                  The competition has two age groups:

 

Intermediate:     11-13 years; and

Senior:               14-17 years,

 

on 31st August 2012

 

Format                         The competition is open to teams of three entered by schools, colleges,

                                            and youth groups.

 

     Each team consists of: a Chairperson, a Speaker and a Proposer of the Vote of  

    Thanks.

 

    The roles of each team member are fully described in the Rules which can be

    accessed by following the link below.

 

      Competitions are organised at Club, District, Regional (National Semi-Final) and

     National level

 

Prizes                          All participants will receive a certificate.

 

     The winning teams will receive the RIBI Challenge Trophy, which is to be held for

    one year.

 

     Each member of the winning, second and third teams will receive an individual

    award.

 

Judging Criteria           The Chairperson will be judged on their management of the meeting

 

      The Speaker will be judged on their ability to present and develop an

      argument and to answer the question

 

      The Proposer of the vote of thanks will be judged on quality and courtesy of

      the vote of thanks

 

      Included within the marking will be the importance of teamwork

 

Dates                            The National Final will be held on Sunday 28 April 2013 at the University of Hull.

                                             To fit in with this date, District finals will be held on Sunday 3 February 2013. 

                                             Clubs should aim to complete their competitions by the end of the  

                                             Autumn term 2012.  Clubs should advise Bryan Bamber by 19 October 2012 of

                                            their intention of entering teams into the District competition

     District submission date:           16 December 2012       

     District Competition:                  3 February 2013

                                            National Semi-Final:                   to be confirmed

                                            National Final:                            28 April 2013    

 

Entries                         Each Rotary Club is entitled to submit a participant for the District competition.

 

    Where one club organises a joint competition on behalf of several clubs, each of

    the several clubs is entitled to submit a participant to the District competition.

                                           These will apply at the District and National competitions. Clubs are free to use

                                           their own rules for their club competitions.
