Dear New Generations  colleagues, welcome to  our second  Newsletter.  We look forward to seeing you at our   next District Council meeting, Wednesday 8 February 2012.   

 

Confirming  information:  Very useful Rotary GB&I website, www.ribi.org  ..... home page, no passwords needed, choose Young Rotary ( top of screen )........ select Competitions from left side of this screen, more headings appear, to choose and work through for more info.  Updated  Competition Rules for 2012 on this website.

                                                                           

Youth Exchange  - Although we do continue to have one informal annual Youth Exchange  in our District, we would really wish to have more YE activity.  To help us to achieve this, offering young people  tremendous, varied opportunities  for travel, experiencing other cultures and confirming that young people are limited only by their own horizons, we needed a YE Officer:  we're now delighted to confirm that  PDG Peter King has kindly taken on our YE Officer role -  email  kingpd@hotmail.com

  

Competitions Young Writer, Young Photographer and Youth Speaks now all have the Olympic  Inspired Mark:   excellent news, opportunities for students to become  more involved with Olympic activities, good publicity, Rotary promotion,   

 

Young Writer  -  This year's theme -  Olympic Dreams, or Olympic Spirit with students choosing their own topic .

Club competition winners results to be sent to Betty McClure, 9 Hop Garden Road, Hook, RG27 9 ST, by 1 February 2012

District winners will then be sent to Rotary GB&I by 1 March 2012

                                       

Youth Speaks Information and queries continue, another excellent year for club participation:  2012 Rules and information on Rotary GB&I website.  ( although there is a recommended theme for YS this year,  Olympic Spirit,  ultimately teams will choose whether or not to work with  this theme )

 

  1. Club rounds to be completed  by 30 January 2012.
  2. Second rounds,  completed by 24 February 2012.

 

SECOND ROUNDS:                  (8 February 2012 being run by RC Croydon East

                                          (10 February 2012 being run by RC Woking District

                                          (22 February 2012 being run by RC Hounslow

DISTRICT FINAL         Saturday 10 March 2012 Warlingham School, Croydon.

REGIONAL FINAL      Sunday 25 March 2012 Chessington Community College

                                            

Young Photographer Theme for this year is Olympic Dreams or Olympic Spirit with students choosing their own topic within the themes.

 

Club winners to District  ( Betty McClure ) by 1 February 2012.

District entries will then be sent to Rotary GB&I by 1 March 2012

( we anticipate Rotary GB&I winning entries to be displayed at Rotary GB&I Conference, Bournemouth, 2012)

Young Chef Once again, continuing very successfully,  with yet more clubs expected to be participating.  (Contact Barry Bramley, RC Morden, barrybramley@yahoo.co.uk )

 

Club rounds to be completed by 14 February 2012:

District Final to be 25 February 2012 For club winners who are coming forward to the District Final, we invite clubs to sponsor a Chefs jacket for each winner:  each jacket is embroidered with details/name of student etc and we expect cost to be approx 25....details to follow.

 

RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership Awards DATES CHANGED

 

This very successful annual event to  be held once again at Avon Tyrell Residential Training Centre, New Forest, May 4 7th,  2012,  starting Friday evening 4 May 2012, until Monday afternoon  7 May 2012.

Early applications for sponsored students  will be welcomed, after detailed information has been circulated.

Technology Tournament This now arranged for May 19th 2012,  Warlingham School, Surrey, with interested/lead club Croydon South.  We plan to have eight teams, starting at 0900 until 1530 hrs.    Much work to be done, many issues to be addressed, Rotary helpers/judges to be recruited from clubs, etc...Flyer has been circulated to all New Generations club chairmen, inviting clubs to let us know of interest from schools, as soon as possible.  Team members working with this

project are ...Rtn David Jux, ( RC Woking District )  AG Tim Parr and  Rtn Wendy Parr ( RC Croydon South)  Rtn Brigitte Faubert ( RC Kew) and  Betty McClure ( RC Aldershot ).

                                                                   

Young Citizen Award 2012   Rotary GB&I reminding us of this award, presented live by the BBC, during the Rotary GB&I Conference 2012.     Please remember, eligible youngsters  do not necessarily have to be working with/via Rotary...........Club  nominations to,  New Generations at Rotary GB&I, as soon as possible.

                                                                   

Young Musician were delighted to note that we do have some 1140 interest in the Young Musician competition, and  have  received the following revised information from Rotary GB&I colleagues. 

 

 

Rotary GB&I YOUNG MUSICIAN FINAL CHANGES Due to changes in the arrangements,  The Rotary GB&I Young Musician final will commence on the morning of Friday 13th April 2012 at the Salvation Army Hall, 76 Palmerston Road, Boscombe.
The winner and three Runners up in both Young Instrumentalist and Young Vocalist categories will then
entertain the Conference attendees on the Friday Night Rotary GB&I Conference, in the Bournemouth International
Centre, Bournemouth. This is an amazing opportunity and a great C.V item so please be positive about the
changes and promote the competition as widely as possible.
More Information about Hosting, accommodation and travel arrangements for the competitors and their
chaperone will be made known as soon as possible - the change to the published Rules will be amended later.

Interact     Phoenix Interact (NMBEC) Club  We are delighted to once again, confirm and congratulate the Rotary Club of Croydon Whitgift, for creating the first Interact Club in 1140, for many years !  The Interact Charter achievement was celebrated with the Interact team, at Norbury Manor Business Enterprise College  on Thursday 8 December 2011, attended by District Governor

Mukesh and many other school and Rotary representatives.  We look forward to hearing more of the club activity.

 

Rotaract Our Rotaract Liaison Officer Jim Snapes continues his important work along with District Rotaract team colleagues, stressing to us all,  the importance of working to encourage and recruit  young people to Rotaract.  Help is needed from Rotarians please.
