YOUR OLYMPIC YEAR CHALLENGE: TO HELP TEENAGE CANCER TRUST!
The Rotary Clubs of Hull and Barton on Humber are pleased to announce that the 2012 Humber Bridge Half Marathon and Fun Run is in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust and other local Rotary charities.
Every day six young people in the UK hear they have cancer. Usually placed on a children’s ward or with elderly patients, they can feel isolated, never meeting others going through the same thing. Teenage Cancer Trust believes teenagers shouldn’t stop being teenagers because they have cancer, so they fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals that allow young people to be treated together with others their own age, in an environment suited to their needs. Unlike ordinary wards, they are designed to give the very best chance of a positive outcome. They are as close as possible to a young person’s normal life, helping them cope with gruelling treatment and long stays in hospital.
It is expected that over 2000 runners will register for the 2012 Humber Bridge Half Marathon (starting at 9.00 am) and over 700 for the Family Fun Run (starting at 9.30 am), which will take place on Sunday, June 24. The Rotary Club of Hull, which organises the event each year with invaluable help of the Rotary Club of Barton on Humber, expects record numbers and publicity for this year’s event.
The organizers are grateful to The Co-operative, the main sponsor of this year’s races (who also sponsored the 2011 event), The Humber Bridge Board and also 96.9 Viking FM & Magic 1161 who are once again the Humber Bridge Half Marathon & Fun Run’s media partners.
The Viking FM mid-morning presenter Patrick Billington is running the Half Marathon for the second time – for details of his training progress, listen to *96.9 Viking FM or go to : www.vikingfm.co.uk/run
