A good crowd gathered to hear the battle for the annual Intermediate and Senior ‘Youth Speaks’ competition organised by the Rotary Club of Skipton on behalf of the Dales Group of Clubs.

Four teams representing South Craven School, Aireville School and Skipton Girls High School faced judges Angela Knowles, Suzy Rowe and chairman David Macha in the Intermediate Competition.  Subjects varied from ‘Three Little Pigs’ to ‘The Beast with Two Backs – Racism & Sexism in Sport’.  Excellent presentations were made by all the teams and the judges declared the team of South Craven School team 1 the winners.  They comprised Chair Madeleine Lloyd, Speaker Lewis Kilburn and Vote of Thanks Rebecca Leach.  Lewis was also awarded the Intermediate Individual Speaker prize.

Teams for the Senior competition were drawn from Prince Henry’s Grammar School Otley, Giggleswick School, Settle and Skipton Girls High School.  Once the again the team subjects were a diverse choice.  After a very close and high quality competition the judges Roger Peel, David Green and chairman Adrian Braddy chose as winners the Giggleswick School team who just edged out the other two participants. The Giggleswick School team comprised of Chair Catherine Harrison, Speaker Ezz El Defrawi and Vote of Thanks Joseph Walters.  Ezz was also voted the Senior Individual Speaker.

Prizes were presented by the Skipton Town Council Mayor Paul Whitaker.

Thanks to Skipton Girls High School for providing the venue and refreshments; all the judges for their participation; Rtn Ian Clark of RC Skipton for his event organisation; the schools for supporting the occasion and most of all the youngsters for their wonderful contribution.
