Winners from the District Young Musician Competitions in Rotary District 1040, 1070 and 1270 met today to compete for one instrumental place and one vocal place at the National Final. Fifteen talented musicians gave excellent performances.

District 1040 was represented by five outstanding performers who played and sang to a really high standard, all accompanied superbly by Jo Peach, adjudicator at the District Final.

Singing were Jonathan Pitts – Ripon/Ripon Rowel s and Olivia Turner-York Vikings

Instrumentalists were Georgia Bowe-clarinet-York Vikings, Robert Bark-saxophone-Northallerton and Amy-Jayne Milton-flute-York Vikings

York and District organiser Peter D Acaster who was accompanied in Melton Mowbray by his wife Ann said,

“Our representatives were tremendous today, displaying outstanding techniques, well-crafted performances, real musicianship and communication skills which belied their years. District 1040 and the sponsoring clubs can feel really proud of their achievements.”

Before a large audience including District Governors from 1070 and 1270, the adjudicators had very difficult decisions to make. The brilliant news is that the instrumental section was won by Amy-Jayne Milton, and the vocal section by Olivia Turner, both from District 1040 and both sponsored by York Vikings.

Congratulations to all five performers but particularly to Olivia and Amy-Jayne who were wonderful.

We wish them luck now in the National Final in Bournemouth on13th April.
