Clubs will remember my appeal for sponsorship for a wheelchair push by all the District Governors Elect in RIBI just before the RIBI Assembly at Birmingham in March.

I just wanted to thank you very much for all the support that I received which resulted in £1,022 being collected in D1180. When those contributions that were Gift Aided are taken into account, the magnificent figure of £1,1125 has effectively been passed to the charity under the Rotary Wheel Appeal banner. This appeal aims to raise £6m to get some 2,000 disabled children actively involved in sports as a legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

The picture shows (assuming you are able to attach it this time otherwise delete this para) Lydia Cross who came 3rd in her age group in the London Mini-Marathon. She completed it in her racing wheelchair - the first from Rotary's Wheel Appeal.

She was absolutely thrilled and is hoping to raise £6,000 in sponsorship and will give half of that back to Rotary's Wheel Appeal with Wheelpower and half to Help for Heroes. It just shows how inspirational she is that she wants to give half of what she raised back so that another young person with disabilities can benefit from a racing wheelchair.

As an 11 year old, Lydia was a Rotary Young Citizen Award winner in 2010. She's from North Devon & had both her legs amputated at the age of two due to meningitis. She has raised more than £65,000 for Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion.  She has also helped wounded servicemen returning from Afghanistan - including Ben McBean - who was a Rotary Young Citizen Award winner this year - get prosthetic limbs.
