Read It! Write It! 2012 Competition Prizegiving, Tuesday 1st May 2012

The "Read It, Write It" book review competition run by Oswestry Library with prizes funded by Oswestry Rotary Club has just concluded its 4th year.

Primary school age children are encouraged to read a book and write a review of it. The best three entries, out of this year's total of 59, received National Book Token prizes totalling £60 from Oswestry Rotary Club. Presenting the prizes at the Library, Club President Mike Jones congratulated the winners on their excellent entries and thanked Heather Rodenhurst for her tireless efforts once again.

As well as the individual prizes awarded, all schools attended by one or more of those who submitted an entry will receive an Usborne Illustrated Dictionary for use as a classroom resource. This year's competition will see 7 Dictionaries being distributed.

The individual winners were: Patrick O'Hagan aged 10 from Kinnerley School (first); Laina Jo Whotton aged 11 from Ruyton School (second) and Caitlin Graham aged 11 from Woodside School (third).

Heather Rodenhurst, the Team Librarian at Oswestry Library coordinating the competition and one of the judges, told the winners: "I would like to congratulate everybody who took part, as the standard was very high. As a result, the judges' task, although very pleasant, was difficult. In the end, the prizes went to those reviews that made us think we would really like to read the books".

Co-organiser Rotarian Stephen Thomas said, "Encouraging literacy is one of Rotary's objectives. We hope that Oswestry Rotary Club has made another small contribution this year by giving 57 children the incentive to read an extra book and then to think and write about it afterwards. The prize-winners will also be able to plough their prizes into more books to read plus the entrants, and all their classmates, will be able to access a new Dictionary at school."
