Home | What we are doing in District 1020 | Edinburgh - Ann Gloag Fistula Project

President Fergus and David Simpson, with their wives, attended a reception and supper hosted by Ann Gloag at Kinfauns Castle on 23rd June. Ms. Gloag is keen to continue her work to reduce the incidence of obstetric fistulas in African countries (specifically Sierra Leone, Malawi and Kenya) and is hoping that Scottish Rotary Clubs may be able to help. The President expressed his desire that next year’s District Governors might be encouraged to investigate further the possibility of a combined project.

Obstetric fistulae are caused when women are severely injured during prolonged, obstructed childbirth and may result in them being rendered incontinent (usually permanently). Quality medical care during pregnancy and childbirth, to which millions of women in Africa still have no access, can prevent such complications.
