Craig Whittaker

Craig's Biography.


Craig Whittaker was elected the MP for the Calder Valley in May 2010 and plays an active role on the Education Select Committee where he has been a member since the election. He also Co-chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Street Children and is a member of the APPG on Children. He has also been part of enquiries which have helped shape Government Policy on Runnaway Children as well as the Literacy levels of Boys.
Craig was born in 1962 in Radcliffe, Lancashire. He emigrated to Australia at the age of five with his Parents. In 1984 Craig came back to live in England and settled in Yorkshire. Craig remarried in 2011 to Elaine and they have 5 children between them. Prior to becoming the MP for the Calder Valley, Craig was a Retail General Manager for a large Blue Chip high street retailer and has been in Retail Management since leaving high school in Australia,
Craig previously served on the Cabinet of Calderdale MB Council as the portfolio holder for Children and Young People's Services. He was also the Lead Member for Children's Services.
