Len Smith

Senior Past President of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland
Len was a member of the Rotary Club of Twickenham from 1958 until 2010. President in 1967 and is now an Honorary member. Since moving to Hampshire is a founder member of the Rotary Club of Four Marks and Medstead. He was Governor of District 1140 in 1977. President of Rotary GB&I in 1989 and appointed a Trustee of the Rotary Foundation in 1993.

Len has been Chairman of the following Rotary GB&I Committees-Conference twice , Vocational ,Assembly. Past Rotary GB&I Presidents, Executive, General Council .Group leader at the RI Assembly twice and RI Council on Legislation delegate for 1140 three times.
He has served on many other Rotary GB&I and RI committees including the RI convention committee, represented the RI President many times.Is a Paul Harris fellow and currently a member of the Rotary GB&I Vocational committee and Chairman of the Rotary GB&I re districting committee and is the senior Rotary GB&I Past President.

Educated at Dauntsey's School and Bradford University, a member of the Textile Institute. He was a jet Pilot in the R.A.F.holds a private Pilots licence and keeps his aeroplane at Popham airfield. He has flown it in the Kings Cup and Schneider trophy air races and won four Royal Aero Club National Air races.

He was Chairman of Len Smith's school and sports Ltd school uniform, specialists and designers and suppliers of sportswear to Great Britain and England womens sports teams and many other National Teams.

Len is married to Joy, ex England lacrosse player and games mistress. He has three sons Peter, Political editor for BBC South Television and Radio. Jon British Airways Captain and senior training standards Captain for the airbus fleet at Heathrow. Christopher former teacher and currently a county cricket coach and Lens co pilot in the air races.

Len has had a very long and happy association with 1140 and he and Joy are delighted to be "back home" representing Rotary International President Sakuji.
