DG JIM'S SUPER CONFERENCE!
Conferences come and go in Rotary and some are remembered for different reasons and all are special to that years District Governor but this year’s conference was special for Jim and Liz Houston and thoroughly enjoyed by almost everyone who spent the weekend or even part of it in Aviemore at the Macdonald Resort and Conference Centre.
- “the best opening session at a Rotary Conference ever!!!!”
- “the Rotary Moments and club slots – Real Rotary in action”
- “Congratulations on an excellent weekend”
- “Including Interact was an inspired idea”
- “Some of the entertainment was just stunning”
- “Great food and fellowship”
- “Excellent conference content”
- “The best House of Friendship ever”
- “Paula MacAskill was fantastic!!”
- “Nigel Risner was an inspiration!”
- “Probably the best 1010 Conference I have been too!”
These are just a few of the encouraging comments we have received, but of course we can’t please all of the people all of the time—but we did come close.
This year we were back in our adopted conference home of Aviemore but in late autumn, thus we saved every attending couple around £100 compared to the previous year in September
It was cold and the countryside was beautiful in its autumn colours with a hint of snow on the hill tops—but the golfers got round dry and happy as the warmth of the welcome from the Spey Valley and Leven teams banished any shivers.
The Highland Welcome and reception helped us settle in and relax while others looked after us.
The staff at the Resort looked after us well and the food was remarkable for such a large number, and if the Resort is getting tired they bent over backwards to look after us, and we are promised a refurbished and up graded facility for the 2015 Conference when we spend Halloween at Aviemore!
Over 400 delegates attended, shared fellowship and Rotary Moments, they made new friends and they probably become better equipped Rotarians.
So why is it not 600 delegates? And why have so many members missed a great weekend? One that should be the highlight of any and every Rotary Year, not just for the District Governor but for every Club President and every member who attends.
Next year we will probably be heading south to Edinburgh or perhaps St Andrews, promise yourself now that you will join the members of the best district in RIBI at the best weekend you will experience in your Rotary Year.
If you doubt my words look at just a few of the photos taken and the smiles on display
See you next year
