The Regional final of Young Musician competition is on 24th March 2013 at Dr Challonerís School, Little Chalfont, Bucks., HP7 9QB. Doors open at 1.00pm and starts at 2.00pm. Come and support our District winning instrumentalists and singers.

This Rotary competition (new to D1080) is open to intrumentalists and singers of classical or modern music who were under 18 years old on the 31st August 2012 and were successful in a preliminary (club) round. 

 

 It took place on Saturday 23rd February at The Leys School, Trumpington Road, Cambridge, CB2 7AD starting at 6.00 pm.

 

Each competitior had up to 8 mins performance time or 10 minutes total time on stage.

The Clubs which organised a Young Musician competition in 2012-13 were:  South Cambridge, Ely Hereward, Wisbech, High Suffolk, Saxmundham and Framlingham and Chatteris.

The standards were truely impressive and the adjudicators had a difficult task identifying the winners.

Results:

Winning instrumentalist -

Olivia da Costa, 15, Cello, Debenham High School, Debenham, Suffolk. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of High Suffolk. She played Elegie Op. 24  by Gabriel Faure and Danse Rituelle du Feu by Manuel de Falla

Winning Vocal -

Isobel Leventhorpe, 17,  Voice, The Leys School, Cambridge.  Sponsored by Rotary Club of South Cambridge

  sang Ensurientes by Bach, The Sky above the Roof by Vaughan Williams and Someone Like You by Frank Wildhorn


Runner-up instrumentalist -
 

Alexander Harris, 14, Violin, The Perse School, Cambridge. Sponsored by Rotary Club of South Cambridge played Symphonie Espagnole 4th Mov. Andante by Edouard Lalo and Tamourin Chinois - F Kreisler

 

Runner-up Vocal -
 

Molly Hazelwood, 15, Voice, Debenham High School, Debenham, Suffolk. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of High Suffolk. She sang Ave Maria by Giulo Caccini arr. de P Gouin and  I could have Danced all Night (My Fair Lady) by Frederick Loe.

 

 These talented musicians will now represent D1080 at the Regional Final on Sunday 24th March 2013 at Dr Challonerís School, Little Chalfont, Bucks., HP7 9QB.

From which the winner of each section will compete in the National Final on Saturday 4th May 2013 at Longfield Academy, Main Road, Longfield, Kent, DA3 7PH
