Robert Gathercole (sponsored by Colchester) won the category with a brilliant character performance leading to his being awarded the first prize.

The instrumental category (ranging from cello and violin to saxophone, clarinet, flute and piano) :

Olivia da Costa's (High Suffolk) performance led the adjudicators to comment that she and the cello belonged together and that she was a great credit to her teacher and they commented on her adept fingering technique.

Alexander Harris (Cambridge South) control on the violin was described as beautiful and they were impressed at his skill and that he so obviously enjoyed playing to this very high standard.

First prize went to 12 year old George Harliono-Evans (Harlow) for an amazing virtuoso piano performance and the Runner up was John Tothill (Southend) with his brilliantly engaging clarinet playing.

Councillor Mimi Harker OBE, the Mayor of Amersham, presented the prizes.

The winners of each category will represent Region 3 at the National Final on Saturday  4th May 2013 at Longfield Academy, Main Road, Longfield, Kent, DA3 7PH.
