Oswestry School Team wins Investment Competition

The Rotary Club of Oswestry's annual investment competition open to teams from local secondary schools has been won by a team of international students from Oswestry School. Each team was given a notional £10,000 to 'invest' in the markets during a six month period with the local branch of HSBC keeping track of gains, losses and costs.

The winning team, consisting of Fay Weng from China and Kristina Krukova, Poline Poevdina and Nellir Liverova, all from Russia, made a notional profit of £300. Chairman of the Club's Vocational Committee, Rtn. David Lloyd, said: "Whilst this result might seem modest, it has to be seen in the context of the runners-up making a loss of more than £3,000. Given the difficult 'trading' conditions it was a very good effort and provided a very real-world learning environment."

Presenting the prizes at The Dining Rooms in Oswestry, Club President Stuart Phillips also congratulated the winning team, represented by Fay Weng, and Oswestry School, represented by Business Studies teacher Linda Stephens. He also thanked Joyce Manson from HSBC for all the help and support she had provided to the students and to the event organiser, Rtn. Chris Perry.
