Continuing Vocational Committee's project of getting to know the members of our Club by means of gentle interview by John Ward, John Cleaver revealed his path through academia from his Grammar School education where an interest in Art was sidelined for studies in Maths, Physics and Chemistry which took him to a Maths degree.
Leaving his student days behind him, John went on to lecture at Cranfield College and Liverpool University via a time spent working for the Bristol Aircraft Company. His hospitable and helpful way with his students over the years earned him the respect of many which was rewarded when a group of his Korean former students travelled to the UK to mark John's 80th birthday recently.
In between all this, John married teacher Shirley, making a very happy family.
John joined the Bebington Rotary Club in 1994, leaving them in 2006 when he moved to this area and joined our Club in 2007. John still enjoys his Art, finding it a relaxing hobby.
Many thanks to both Johns for an interesting and enlightening evening.
Message from John Ward:
Last night I asked those present to nominate some one to be the subject of next year's Focus Evening. This request is to extend that invitation to all members of the club. If you feel that one of our members or their spouses/partners have a interesting tale to tell then let me know.
