2014 Eye Camps in India

Cataract operations in India

For many years we have been collecting small change at our weekly meetings, in a large old bottle that is passed around our meal tables. Over a period of twelve months, we usually manage to collect 500-600, and this is used to fund an eye surgery clinic in India, where people can have eyesight restoring cataract operations. We do this in memory of one of our founder members, Satish Bhargava, who was an eye surgeon. His wife, Sandra, generously topped our collection up to 1000, and in February and March 2014, a total of 66 cataract operations were carried out in New Delhi. The youngest patient was 46, and the oldest was 95 years old.
