Friday afternoon

Rob Rees Cotswold Chef – Wiggly Worm

Rob Rees MBE is one of the UK's leading chefs and consultants dedicated to creating a better food culture for Britain.  He established the Wiggly Worm charity to improve health, well-being and self-esteem amongst the vulnerable, disadvantaged or seldom heard.

He will talk about the projects that the charity works on, including the Star Bistro at the National Star College.

Dr Geof Mackey

Geoff is a Rotarian and an outstanding speaker. Words to descibe Geoff life include "full and varied" Geoff is an executive Director at BASF plc (the worlds largest technology and chemicals business).

RI Representative and Rotary GB&I President

We are very lucky and pleased to have RI Director Robert Hall and his wife Charlene at the conference, as well as Rotary GB&I President Peter King and his wife Di.

Robert is representing RI President Gary Huang and will convey Gary’s message and greetings to D1100.  He will also bring us up todate on other Rotary matters.

Steve Dayman, Executive Founder at Meningitis Now

Steve launched the UK's meningitis movement after losing his baby son Spencer to the disease in 1982.  He will talk about his work with the Meningitis charities and the latest developments.

Matt Hyde, Chief Executive of The Scout Association

The Scout Association’s aim is to "actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society". Over 446,000 young people aged 6 to 25 belong to the association, with a further 40,000 young people waiting to join the organization.  Matt will speak on how the Association has achieved a turnaround in recruitment and how Rotary and the Scout Association could work together.

Jackie Smith, Executive Head Teacher Uplands School and Uplands Educational Trust

Uplands is a school for students aged 11 – 19 years with severe learning difficulties, while the Uplands Educational Trust (UET) meet the needs of complex learners 19 – 25 years in Swindon.  Jackie will give us an incite into the work and developments at Uplands, including the Uplands Shop and Uplands Interact Club.

Sunday morning Peace and Conflict Resolution

Peace One Day Video

In 1999, Jeremy, an actor turned filmmaker, founded Peace One Day, a non-profit organisation, and in 2001 Peace One Day’s efforts were rewarded when the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September – Peace Day.

Watch this inspirational and moving video and find out how millions of children were vaccinated against polio when the fighting stopped.

Alison Sutherland

Alison Sutherland is the President of the Rotary Club of Cardiff Bay and District Rotaract Officer and District Peace Officer for District 1150. Alison will speak on her eace work and the role of the Rotarian Action Group for Peace.

Mike Peckham, Assistant CEO Hire a Hero

Hire a Hero is a charity that supports service leavers through the transition into civilian life. For many service leavers civilian life can be a confusing, chaotic place and the charity, through its network of businesses, mentors and volunteers provides a consistent source of support to service leavers.  Mike will tell us how the charity works with individuals to make better informed choices as well connecting them with businesses for potential employment.

Liz Odell, Shelter Box

Liz, a member of Nailsworth Rotary Club, is also a member of a Shelter Box Response team.  She will tell us of how she got involved with the charity and her personal experiences of her deployments over the world.
