Mock Interviews for the Year 11 students at The Marches Academy

24 Rotarians interviewed up to 7 students each at The Marches on January 30th 2015 - our annual "Mock Interviews". This was the second year of a "big bang" approach to interviewing a whole year group on one day. In 2013 and previously, the exercise had taken 6 or 7 successive Monday mornings in The School Library.

Rotarians give this event great support, realising from their own backgrounds in most cases that they went to "college" or "first job" interviews relatively unprepared. Each student received an half hour slot in which a 15 minute interview proceeded from a previously submitted cv or "Application Form" for interview, and was followed by a 15 minute informal discussion on how well they did on the basis of their written statement, personal presentation and appearance, experience - particularly of part-time work or sport with leadership roles, ambitions and qualifications required (and indeed their appreciation of qualifications required and whether they were on course to meet them or not), their hobbies, competence at computers and social networks, etc.

Sarah Peacock, assisted by Lauren Pike, prepared all the paperwork published by The Wrexham Erddig Rotary Club (see www.werc.org.uk go to What we Do and click on Mock Interviews) and offered in model form by The Rotary Club of Oswestry, and organised a full day from 9am until 3pm in the new School Sixth Form Centre.

The 24 Rotarians were assisted by Sue Leonard, Mike McKenna and Mike Hutchinson.

Sarah had called in a number of other interviewers from the The School's Business Support Group including Adam Clifton of Pop Creative and Cllr Cynthia Hawksley.
