2017 Wylkedin Quaich
Wednesday 3rd May 2017 was 99 years since the first Wylkedin Quaich was held, inviting Rotarians from all over Scotland to attend the longest running Rotary Golf Match in Scotland, if not the world!
Twenty-two teams travelled from as far afield as Dumfries in the south, Oban in the west and East Sutherland in the north. As in previous years we were very lucky with the weather reaching a heady 17c in the afternoon all be it a bit windy. The Stirling club organised it once again having won it four times in the past five years, but this year we didn’t even manage the leader board thanks to a strong early lead by Aberdeen Bon Accord 1 led by Willie Skeen ably assisted by David Lane, David Craik and Robert Gordon with the best three scores amounting to ninety-nine points. Robert Gordon also managed the highest individual score on the Burnside Course with a 36, followed closely by Alistair Robinson of the Pitlochry club with a 35 on count back, but Willie Skeen of Bon Accord 1 and John Chambers of East Sutherland also matched the same 35 on the Burnside Course.
The best individual scores on the Championship Course this year was made by Jim Patrick of the Dundee Club with a magnificent 38 and followed by Michael Reid of the Aberdeen club with a very respectable 34.
The final results for the 2017 Wylkedin Quaich are as follows
1st, Aberdeen Bon Accord 1 (99 points)
2nd, Brechin (96 points)
3rd East Sutherland (95 points)
Nearest the pin Championship Course, Michael Reid of the Aberdeen cub.
Nearest the pin Burnside Course, Stephen Burnett of the Ellon club.
I wish Willie Skeen and his team all the very best organising the Centenary event in 2018.
