An Oswestry school is getting closer to its dream of owning three `Eden Project style’ classrooms, thanks to the involvement of environmentally-friendly house builder Tesni Homes.

Tesni Homes is donating cash and advice, as well as pledging on-going support, towards The Marches School’s fundraising appeal for the transparent geo-domes, which will see the space-age structures used as science and outdoor classrooms.

To cement the relationship, staff and pupils dropped in to see Tesni’s brand-new view home at Glentworth Place, Morda, which is part of a six detached home development on the site of the town’s former ambulance station and opened to the public on Saturday May 28th.

Pupils were able to showcase their plans for the exciting new additions, which are part of a wider conservation project, while finding out more about Tesni’s use of eco-technology and the company’s commitment to building sustainable homes, with state-of-the-art features, that not only help the homes to power, light and even `breathe’ for themselves, but also reduce energy bills for residents.

Over recent months, Tesni Homes, along with The Woodland Trust and Carbon Zero UK, has been working with the staff and 20-strong eco committee at The Marches School in support of the school’s vision to house the geo-domes which will be in three different sizes.

Sarah Longville, Executive Headteacher at The Marches School explained: “The conservation project will transform an underused area of the school site through the implementation of geodesic domes and the creation of a dedicated wildlife area for the students and the local community to enjoy and use.  It is hoped that the conservation area will be able to support a range of habitats to help inspire and encourage students to learn about nature and wildlife and the importance of the environment around them. Through the early stages of this project we are building a strong partnership with Tesni Homes, who are actively supporting us in realising this vision.”

It’s exciting to learn that the school’s eco committee plans to use one of the domes to grow vegetables. It makes for a lovely link up for us as we have introduced eco-landscaping, nesting boxes and a vegetable plot to our view home garden to demonstrate how effective planting can not only attract birds, bees and other local wildlife, but can also facilitate home growing.
