Sara Hay - Dogs Trust with Cocoa.
Sara Hay visited Healds Hall on Mon 5th June and gave a talk about the Dogs Trust accompanied by her dog Cocoa.
Sara explained that she had worked for the Dogs Trust for 11 years and and that she adopted Cocoa as a pet from the Dogs Trust .Cocoa is only 8 months old.
The Dogs Trust was previously known as the Canine Defence League but changed its name in 2003.
Its famous logo is a "dog for life" slogan. No healthy dog is ever destroyed.They have an ongoing neutering,microchipping and education campaigns.
The Trust cared for 17500 dogs in 2016-17 There are 21 centres around the UK the nearest is on York Road Leeds. The Leeds centre is 11 years old and has 60 kennels. It cared for 1000 dogs in 2016 with 40 people working in the centre including a full vets centre. Dogs come into the centre as handovers or strays from local authorities.The average stay for a dog is 4 - 6 weeks.When adopting a person is asked questions for suitability all dogs are checked and have a pre home visit.

Our mission is to make a lasting difference to dog welfare across the world. Dogs Trust run Dog School this gives affordable structured and enjoyable training classes and behavior consultations.
They run campaigns to stop puppy smuggling and battery farming of dogs.
